| In the ever-changing world of marketing through the Internet, it’s important to establish your position. While Yellow Pages and Local Newspapers are still on circulation, more people are getting into the habit of finding their products and services through the World Wide Web. Are you online, and if so; can people find you easily? That is a golden eye opener question. Legacy brick and mortar marketing techniques are still applicable to online marketing. Every business owner or manager is aware of its market. He/she knows how responsive the market is in respect to the line of products and services he/she offers. For example, a flower shop store somewhere in Okanagan Valley (Let’s call it Flower Brick Store or FBS located in Kelowna) might consider preparing a brochure to send out to people prior to Valentine’s Day. Let’s ask ourselves who are his potential customers. Of course, every person in Okanagan Valley could be his potential customers. But the question is whether or not he can afford to send a brochure to every household in the area. Imagine, he had the resources to produce enough flyers to send to all, it is still not a practical approach. I mean, a person in Penticton might find it easier to order flowers from a local florist. For these reasons, FBS should consider focusing his advertisement marketing budget towards his target customers. The more targeted his advertisement campaign is, the more beneficial the outcome would be. The same is true for online marketing as well. Promoting items through the internet is not any different. |
